It’s party time! You did your maternity photoshoot, or even a newborn photoshoot… And here we are at the full month celebration party! Then there’s the one-year birthday party, and so on…

We know how crazy it can get especially with all the planning involved, your caterers, your guest list, the decoration… And now what about the photos?? This is where we come in!

5 Tips To Getting The Images You Love From Your Kids’ Birthday Parties

1. Don’t try to be mom, dad, party planner, AND photographer.

It’s stressful enough to make sure everyone of your guests is well taken care of, the food all arrived on time, and your baby all comfy and happy… And still you want to take beautiful pictures?? Give yourself a break on the actual day, during the party and just enjoy and spend time with family and friends! You can only give attention to so many things at one time. Let the focus be on your birthday kid and let us take the photos for you.

You’ve done so much work, you’ll want to be in the pictures of your child’s special day too, and I’m sure your baby would want to see pictures taken together with you when they’re grown up.

2. Plan ahead! Your Venue matters!

Parties are the weekend’s favourite and we can only squeeze that many appointments in those 2 days. We do have several photographers with us, but weekend slots do get fully booked first, so drop us a message even if it’s to reserve the slot for you!

Our photographers come ready with the lighting we need for events, but every venue is unique to their own. Some location have ambient lighting, while others are lit with white light… If you’re having your party in the afternoon, we can expect some beautiful natural light from the sun too! Pick the venue for the atmosphere you like, and your photos will give the same mood :)

If natural light is your go-to choice, when you recce for a location, go at the timing of your party so you can gauge how bright the place will be. If you don’t want everyone to turn all yellow skin, then we would say, avoid places that are lit with spotlights or are too dark with only some ambient lighting.

3. Communication is key! Talk to us!

No individual is the same, and we don’t want to assume we know what is important to you to capture. For some it would be photos of your kid with his or her grandparents, for others, it could be the specially designed birthday cake you did for your baby, or even group shots when you’re singing the Happy Birthday song! I mean how often do you get to gather around friends and families like that, right? Of course, we cannot forget the birthday boy or girl, photos of him or her could be your priority too.

Give us a list of all your must-have shots, and we’ll make sure we check it all off and get the most of the shots you love to have!

4. Give Attention to Relationship

What’s best about a birthday party, even as we celebrate with the birthday kid, is the fact that we all have an “excuse” and make time to gather and spend time together as friends and families. The birthday party gave us a venue to gather with the people we love most.

And you know what would give you the best photos? When we give attention to the relationships we have. Keep away your phone, remove any ipads, don’t let any device become a distraction. Our photographers are looking out for moments to capture, and we need your help to create those moments. Give your child lots of cuddles, get the cousins to tickle each other. Let them play with toys and laugh together. Tell a silly joke and crack them up! It’s those unscripted moment that we will come to cherish the most.

Our photographers won’t intrude on your space, even as we give direction for posed group shots, let us capture those un-posed, candid moments that tell a beautiful part of your story too.

5. Embrace The “Chaos” At a Party

We all know how it can get “dramatic” with one kid… what’s more, if there are quite several of them all gathered in one place. There’s lots of sugar in the cakes, or dessert and kids are running around, adrenaline is on the high… Don’t get too frustrated if things are not “perfect”, we find beauty even in the “chaos”. Let us record the authencity of the moment, a spilled cup of milk can be the talk of the table years from now when we have photos of it and laugh at how silly our expressions were when it happened..

At the end of the day, it’s the memories we want to remember and let us help you do that with photos.
