4 Ways Your Family Photos Tell Them “I Love You”

Christmas is coming! And ain’t Christmas a time of family getting together?
A time we celebrate relationships, we enjoy each other’s time together, we celebrate Love and give thanks for all that we have overcome and were blessed with the whole year.

What family traditions do you keep and come together each year? How many of you have vivid memories from your childhood? How much of those fond recalling came from pictures…

The fact is memories fade, and when we get all busy as we grow up, those moments where we recall our shared memories diminish as well.

And I quote Kim Barlow, a stay-home-mum and a fellow photographer:

The 4 ways your family photos tell them “I love you”

1. “I want them to think about the good things and the good times, and through these images help them to know how much their parents love them.”

Let’s be honest, as much as our little kids are adorable and in our opinion the cutest… Sometimes, at 3am and still awake, they can drive us nuts too… Sometimes, as parents we also make mistakes, perhaps we’ve raised our voice at times we shouldn’t have, perhaps we overlook them when we’re all tired out… We know we love them, with all our hearts and we want to give nothing but the best for them. But do they know this?

Sometimes Love given, is not Love received… You can show them, with pictures. You have influence over the things your children remember and your family photos are evidences to remind them of your love. The ones with you in it! Not just the pictures you took of them in your phone.

2. “I want them to see us having fun together.”

Sometimes looking at our family photos, images from our childhood are really what made the difference, our children reminded of our love for them, all the hugs and kisses we gave abundantly when they’re toddlers that they might not enjoy THAT much once they hit the teenager phase…

Your family portraits not only influence what your children remember from their childhood, but also how they feel about family relationships.

When they think about you, what first come to their mind? How to spend time with them, what to spend time doing – you decide.

3. “I want them to remember what we did for them and how valued they are.”

Taking pictures and making it a point every other day, that’s hard work… Planning for a photoshoot at every milestone? Yes, we know – you have to be initiative and intentional to make it happen…

What we’re suggesting is, make it a family tradition, make it a Christmas time get-together, make it once a year… They might not enjoy the session now, but they will thank you for it later. It is a legacy of memories you are building, and a gift of a lifetime that takes just a couple of hours from your entire year. If we talk a few hours as investment but a lifetime of rewards… Would it be worth you time? This is how much you value them.

“Children spell Love as T-I-M-E”

4. “I want them to see how very beautiful they are.”

Have you ever struggled feeling not beautiful enough? Not as good-looking as a certain classmate? Not tall enough, not smart enough, not good enough… (Do we even want to get the list going…)

We don’t talk about it enough amongst us adults, how “not enough” we feel inside sometimes… What about our children? We see them the moment they were born and every part of us saw how perfect they are, how much love we have for them… Is this communicated to them, to let them know how beautiful they are, and it doesn’t matter what anyone else says, whoever it is.

Show them with pictures, how beautifully and wonderfully they are made – how they are a miracle and how much worth they are. Let your photos be visuals they replay in their minds, your voice a resounding assurance they don’t forget, let these be the courage they take with them as they enter into the scary world we are in…

“These images will not only be helpful to look back and remember but they can help to shape the future impressions your kids will have of themselves and their family.”

Your family portraits are not just to celebrate the present, to show your families and friends at gatherings. They are shaping you and your children’s future, have them taken, print them out, display them everywhere at home. And your home will be a constant reminder of the joy, love and delight your relationships with one another have been.

We recently engaged Bambini Photography, particularly Fatilyn for our boy’s 1 y.o. photoshoot. Consistent with the majority of the reviews provided here, we had a pleasant, smooth experience from the time of booking to the actual shoot. Fatilyn’s enthusiasm and friendliness (especially with our kid) made us felt welcome. Most importantly, she did not rush us during the session and she was very focused in getting the best expressions as much as possible. Will certainly consider future shoots with Bambini Photography!

This was my 2nd session with Bambini. My photographer Yong En was really able to connect with my girls. She made them felt at ease almost immediately. She knew that we wanted to talk family portrait at our home as we were moving out soon. So, she made sure we captured our moments in most part of the house. The photos were brilliant! Thank you!

Cake Smash Alternative – Fruit Smash Photography

Yay!!! Your baby is finally approaching one…

Last 10 or so months have been nothing short of amazing.

Remember those days that you stare at those little fingers, little toes? Remember when they first stick their heads up while doing tummy time?

When they start rolling from back to their tummy or the special moment when your child sit up independently for the first time?

Watching them grow through each milestone as they begun to sit up unassisted, grasp and hold onto food, see how they interact with their surroundings, the food texture, their natural curiosity that brings them to explore and experiment.

Of course, there are times where you thought, how we are going to go through with those crying and sleepless nights.

As a first time parents, we understand that getting things in order, keeping the baby clean is our priority. However, your baby is going to turn one, you are thinking what you could do to celebrate this major milestone of your little baby?

At Bambini, we always think of ways to help our clients to celebrate their children milestones.  Cake Smash is so popular these days but unfortunately, it may not be for everyone…

For children who are allergic to ingredient in the cake or simply prefer an healthier options. We have replaced cake with Fruit…

Watermelon is great for photography because of the colour. So, are you up for some smashing fruit time? Let your babies get their hands on these sweet bites!

If you have an older child, they can get involved too! Have him or her feed their little sibling, and have some bonding time. It’s these little moments of affection that melts my heart! Does it do the same for you?

The Essence of Family | Family Photography

We’d like to take on Tolstoy on his take on ‘family’ but we rather stick to what we know best. After years of taking family photographs, we can safely say that “No one family is the same.”

Fam·i·ly ˈfam(ə)lē/

From our search, the dictionary shows that a family is a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household.

However, things are fast-changing in the modern context.

Families come in all shapes and sizes, numbers, just like ourselves and our dress sizes.

Some families do not live together in one household, because they are separated by seas, circumstances, work. Some families do not have a complete set of parents, due to illnesses, separations, estrangement or even death. Some families are childless choosing to adopt pets as children. Some families are made different. Some families are adopted or fostered.

But all of them are still families!

Being a part of a family means accepting each other’s differences, to protect and respect, to comfort each other in times of happiness and sadness, and to support one another to higher grounds, to share memorable life experiences together and to celebrate moments as one.

Those essences are what make family beautiful- the odds and differences of each character and member of the makeup of a family.

And we love capturing them on camera. To have perfectly encapsulated them in pictures, their frowns, their laughters, their cheekiness, their tears, their care for each other.

In this festive season, we are calling all families, whatever you are to give yourself a shot at having your family photos taken. Share with others your joy, your beautiful clan that brings you the most happiness. Show them off and show the world how proud you are of your family.

No matter how big or small, how diverse, how unconventional, how normal. Display your family portraits at home, in your office, your bathroom, your wallet. Because trust us, it is this little thing that you’d look back time and again that will put a smile on your face when you caught sight of your family on the framed photo or even the one tuck in your purse.

Now, that’s what we call a worthy purchase.

How to Get Kids to Engage and Smile For Camera | Children and Family Photography Singapore

As parents ourselves, we know that things can get pretty out of hand when children are involved. Nothing ever goes as planned but more often than not, it is exactly that unpredictability that makes the spontaneous moments that we remember for years and make up for the stories that continue to haunt them as we retell them at family gatherings.

Photographing children can be quite daunting for unseasoned photographers. Most children do not like posing for the camera and get easily distracted by their surroundings and that can be difficult for photographers to capture the moment as everything is unraveling way too fast. So out-of-focus and blurry pictures are often common when it comes to photographing kids.

Having learned, played and photographed thousands of babies, toddlers, children and teenagers, we can confidently say that we are quite the pro when it comes to children photography.

So today we are going to share with you some insider tips and insights on how to ace it.

Children comes in all shapes, sizes and behaviours. You can consider yourself lucky if you get to work with children who take instructions easily but in most cases it is hardly the case – they are children. And the best thing about children is, they don’t follow the rules.

  1. Breaking the ice

Just before we approach any photography session, it’s best to leave it to the parents to gain a better understanding of the kids. Parents will be asked to fill-up questionnaires to help us know about the children.

Yong En says, “The information they give us can really help us break the ice with the kids and family. If we know what they [the kids] enjoy doing, we’ll know how to engage them.”

  1. Being patient and observant pay off

Patience is the number one key when dealing with the little ones. We don’t have to coerce kids to do what they don’t want to do. We absolutely advised parents against disciplining their children when things get out of hand during a photoshoot. It should be a fun and rewarding experience for all, so no one should be upset. This is the time where your children can get messy, dynamic and spontaneous for our camera to capture their personality.

Yong En recalls this incident where, “There was a kid who wasn’t keen on having his photos taken, then I saw that his bag is pinned with minecraft badges… so I figured he must like it… I asked him about it and he started opening up. The rest of the shoot in the botanic gardens became me and him out in a minecraft world attacking minecraft monsters. It was really fun!”

It worked and sometimes we need just to pay closer attention to get the children’s.

  1. Playtime is mandatory

“Telling kids to pose and smile don’t always work, so we PLAY, have fun, eat snacks. It helps if they are your children’s favourite”, says Yong En.

We laid out all the toys, balloons, cupcakes, kitchen sets, for the children to go crazy with. It is after all their time to shine so let them do their job and everything will be swell.

  1. Being a part-time clown works too

We believe in engaging with the children. Because what’s a photography session without some fun injected to it?

Some of the things we do include, tickling the kids with fake flowers. Making funny fart noises , peek-a-boo, or sneezing just to catch their attention.

Even our singing voices are put to the test at times. “There was a kid who only stops crying when I sang nursery rhymes, and would immediately cry again when the song ends. He was only a few months old and singing really engaged him. I have never sung so much and so long in my life. I felt like I just did a Hi-5 concert. Hahaha…”, adds Yong En.

  1. Know your subjects in and out, and if you don’t find out!

Always get to the children’s level, not just eye-level. What we found that works wonder is to keep talking to them, eye-to-eye. Helping them to get comfortable with us, the photographers is crucial, because children tend to be wary and become withdrawn in an unfamiliar environment.

Ask them a bunch of questions, it might take a while for them to answer, but once you hit the right one, they will start opening up and smile for you. And the rest is history. This works highly with children who are on the shy side.

  1. Treat everything with spontaneity

There are children who just can’t sit still, no matter what tricks you have up your sleeves. In turn, asking them to stay quiet for a shot can upset them. So making sure we are versatile and flexible is key to getting the perfect shot.

Yong illustrates one typical incident, “ Asking kids who love running up and down to sit still won’t work… maybe for the first few shots… but forcing them can upset the kid, but if they don’t do it, it can upset the parents. So I always go for the rewarding system. I would tell the kids to run but specifically cue them to smile while running, in which gives me the perfect moment to take my shots. So they can be running round and round for me to get my shots, but everyone is happy. And that’s all that matters eventually.”

For kids with siblings, we would usually encourage them to play together and set it so that both personalities are captured, these usually make perfect ‘siblings-moments’ photos.

We feel that should be enough for now to equip you with a better understanding of the behind-the-scenes. Knowing what gear and equipment to use and planning ahead is necessary but it all boils down to the basics, which is, knowing your subjects and to be in tune and intuitive to their needs are what makes good children photographer.
