It breaks our hearts to reject clients asking to do Newborn Photoshoots, or when clients are hoping to achieve newborn shots with their baby but they aren’t in the newborn stage anymore. While we can attempt the newborn poses on certain older babies, we are not able to promise and guarantee the results as Bambini’s highest priority is always the safety and welfare of babies and we wouldn’t push them too far and cause them stress.

With years and years of experience with babies, we’ve learnt a lot through the hard way!

With that we’d want our clients to make informed decision at the end of the day, knowing the kind of photos you want and can achieve with your baby – so that you can come to your shoot with clearer expectations to match with what your baby is comfortable with. There is a lot of difference between Newborn & 1-2 months baby. Even if it’s different only by a few weeks, you’d be surprised how much they can grow within that period of time.

So let’s get to the chase! What’s the difference between Newborn & 1-2 months baby photoshoot?
No option is better than the other, but more of what are the kind of images do you want to achieve together.

1-2 Months Baby Photoshoot is great for capturing babies’ expressions and family connection because they’re more awake and they’re starting to recognise more of their surroundings. Newborn Photoshoot on the other hand focuses more on how small and precious your baby is!

“What Do I Need To Know?”

Every babies are different. However, newborns usually…

are able to hold newborn poses for Newborn Photoshoots between 5 – 14 days of age
(the optimum time is 5 – 10 days)
prefer to be curled up and wrapped up to feel secure just as how they were like in their mummy’s wombs
go through growth spurts once they reach past 2 weeks old
(some babies may go through it earlier, some later)

“What Are Growth Spurts?”

Babies past 2 weeks old will experience growth spurts such as…

more likely to stretch out more
(constricting their movements by wrapping them up in curled up poses may stress them out)
have the tendency to be more awake and more aware of their surroundings
(certain newborn poses may require babies to be calm or asleep for the safety and comfort of babies)
gets hungrier for milk more often than before
just like us, they have preferences too, especially when they’re past 2 weeks old – they may prefer not to be in certain lying positions, not to be put down to sleep, to be carried more, breastfed more, swaddled up more (every babies are different though!)

Usually newborn babies are able to curl up better because that is how they’ve been like in their mother’s womb. That’s also comforting to them because it makes them feel as if they’ve yet to leave the womb!

They are also flexible to be in different poses, where else for 1-2 months babies, they’re less flexible, more stronger and more awake to be in poses.

If you love expression shots like we do, then, 1-2 months baby shoot would be great for you! If 1-2 months photoshoot is not what you’re looking for, you can even try 6 months milestone photoshoot!

We usually let babies to dictate what they are comfortable with, and we’ll work with what we have creatively.

We can never truly predict how 1-2 months babies would react and that’s the best part! Their adorable expressions are the best and it’s a great time too if you need some rest after giving birth to capture some memories while you’re still on maternity leave.

A Celebration of Time and Moment | Family Photography

There is a saying that goes, “Children Spell L O V E as T I M E. There may be many reasons as to why you cannot be with your children but none of them can replace the time lost. Once lost, it’s gone forever, you can never recreate the moment again.”

We, at Bambini Photography are fervent believers of time because the nature of our work is such that we are surrounded by it. We are the moments capturers, photo studio who specialise in children and family photography.

5 Things You Need to Know About Newborn Photography Before Hiring A Newborn Photographer

1. Know Why and What You Want

I know, I know… it is isn’t always straight forward to figure out what you want in life.

But of course, some of you love that and there is nothing wrong if you prefer to live today to its fullest and don’t worry about the future.

2. What Kind of Skills Do You Need Your Photographer to Have?

This may not be obvious and you will only know it when you use the service. Technical know-how is a basic stuff that every photographer should know. An accredited master photographer gives you the assurance that they know their technical stuff.

However, beyond the basic technical ability to conduct a safe and comfortable shoot, is the ability of managing the baby.

A photographer who has managed a lot of babies will be someone that know how to safely manage your baby and offer you the experience.

3. Choose a newborn photographer can take great shots and knows how to handle the baby well too!

#1 priority would be the safety of your baby. What define a great newborn photographers like ours are the soft skills that manages your baby through out the shoot and these includes:

* being able to understand and read the behaviour of the newborn

* anticipate moments, to predict a newborn’s need,

* soothe wailing babies,

* where to touch in the face to make a tot grin for the camera.

* knowing when enough is enough for the baby

* how to calm anxious first time parents

* knowing that baby is about to poop;

* knowing if the baby had been ‘fully burped’ before continuing;

* knowing when baby needs a feed despite the fixed 2.5-3 hour feeding schedule.

The soft skills our photographers learnt over the years did not come naturally. Each go through ‘excruciating’ yet memorable moments of being urinated on, pooped on, vomited on and from one diapers to another and the experience. All the mentioned soft skills required to be a baby whisperer is earned through hard work and working and photographing different newborns in various circumstances.

Most new parents are still sticking to the traditions of confinements, not keen on the idea of going out of the house before the 30-days period- much less having to be photographed. 4. Newborn photography can be done both at home or in the studio.

Majority of the people think that the only way to achieve professional looking shots is at photographer’s studio.

We understand that people still would like to observe their confinement, hence having professional quality images is about transporting the equipments and props to your home and we love doing that because our vision is simply to help parents capturing and preserving memories.

5. One newborn photoshoot session can last up to 3 hours.

Each session often last for up to three hours with nursing, nappy changing breaks in between. For mothers who are still recovering from delivery, they can always opt to have a photoshoot to be done at home.

There is no one way to doing newborn photography especially with the myriad of styles available in the market these days. Parents have their own individual preferences to the styles they are after when hiring a newborn photographer. Some prefer a simplistic minimalistic approach for an artistic results, other parents want a natural, lifestyle approach that captures essences of their young family and others love the colours and that the wraps and props do to dress up the shoot.

Fatilyn was great! Very professional, quick and good with babies and older kids. We did the newborn (8 days old) plus family photoshoot. The basic edited photos were turned around very quickly and sent to us for selection.
