Grandparents may prefer a more classic, formally arranged family portrait, while younger family members may also want some relaxed and candid photographs.
Look for a studio that can create both structured family portraits and more relaxed combinations within the same session.

When grandparents, young children and several households are travelling separately, convenience matters.
Consider parking, sheltered drop-off, lift access and whether family members using wheelchairs or strollers can reach the studio without navigating stairs.

Ask what different looks can be created without having to move a large group between locations.

A good, large family portrait needs enough space for the photographer to arrange people according to height, age, family relationships and mobility, while keeping the overall portrait balanced.

With a multi-generation family, everyone may have travelled from different homes, different countries just to be together for the photoshoot. Getting everyone back to the studio again simply to choose photographs may not be practical.
