Maternity photography has changed considerably since Bambini Photography first began photographing expectant mothers in Singapore.
Over the years, we’ve seen maternity portraits move through different styles. From the darker, more dramatic studio portraits popular in our earlier years to softer, lighter photographs, fabric drapes, silhouettes, family maternity portraits and milk bath photography.
Our own maternity photography has evolved too.
Looking back through our archives gives us an interesting record of how maternity photography and the families we photograph have changed over the years.

From Maternity Portraits To More Personal Photographs
One of the changes we’ve seen over the years is how much more personal maternity photography has become.
Some mums arrive in beautiful dresses or traditional clothing. Others have been photographed in their work scrubs, sports attire or even with their wedding veil.
Families sometimes bring ultrasound images, baby shoes, personalised clothing or something connected to the pregnancy. We’ve even photographed a mum with a hamburger because it had become part of the story of her pregnancy.
These details aren’t about creating something different for the sake of it. They make the photographs personal to that particular pregnancy and family.
Years later, they can become part of the story parents tell their children about the time before they were born.

How Bambini’s Maternity Photography Has Evolved
Looking through our archive, we can see not only how families have changed, but how our maternity photography has evolved too.
In our earlier years, darker and moodier studio portraits were especially popular. Over time, we introduced lighter and more romantic styles, silhouettes, fabric drapes, family maternity portraits and other contemporary looks.
Some families in this archive returned for their second and third pregnancies and later continued coming back for baby and family photographs.

Maternity Photography Today
Maternity photography will continue to change, but the reason families choose to photograph this stage remains much the same.
Pregnancy is temporary, and every pregnancy becomes part of a family’s story.
Today, our studio maternity sessions include a range of looks from simple and light to darker, more dramatic portraits, with options for individual maternity portraits as well as photographs with your partner and children.
