Have Singaporeans Forgotten The Existence of Staircases?
If you have ever been to a HDB built before 1990, you may have realized that the lift doesn’t stop at every floor. For instance, those living on the seventh floor may have lifts that stop only on the fifth and ninth floor, forcing you to walk either upstairs or downstairs.
For many of us who now live in buildings with direct lift landing access, we don’t find it being an annoyance. However, for those living in these flats, it’s a greater hassle than you might expect. Heavy groceries take a greater toll on knees, and buying new furniture would require a small team of people to carry them up the stairs. Not forgetting the young parents carrying kids, diaper bags, baby carrier and extra shopping bags and the stroller at the same time.
HDB Lifts – A Life Saver For Families With Young Children And Elderly
Thankfully, HDB had the foresight and introduced the HDB Lift Upgrading Programmearound 2001 aimed at relieving these inconveniences by building direct lift access on every floor. This is so that the residents’ to have direct access to their homes conveniently, especially the elderly, mobility challenged and families with young children.
It’s interesting how some things we take for granted can be so easily forgotten. In Singapore, many of us have become so reliant on the convenience of lifts that we’ve forgotten about the existence of staircases.
Why We Built A Mobility Friendly Studio
Our experiences with our own elderly parents is that if they had a choice, they’d prefer to go somewhere with lift access, firstly because their knees are weaker and require walking aids; secondly, they have the fear of falling while coming down the stairs.
With that in mind, we often plan our outings around places with lift access or with the least number of stairs to climb for their convenience. It is also with this in mind that we chose a studio where the building where our studio is located provide easy access for the elderly, mobility challenged and for young parents.
Afterall, these are the group of people we serve in our studio day in and out; and eliminates the need for special arrangements when you bring your elderly parents to our studio for a photoshoot.
Mobility Friendly Studio is only one of the few considerations one should be thinking of when tasked to book a photo studio for their family photoshoot. Learn the Top 5 Tips for Selecting A Photo Studio For Your Family Photoshoot.

The human mind is a powerful tool and if you set yourself up to make it happen, It will happen!
We had our family photoshoot on 10/4/22. I am very pleased with the photography session. Although it was a rather last-minute booking, they managed to accommodate us on a Sunday. Our photographer, Mr Shafiq was such a pleasant guy and he was able to capture the attention of my 2 young granddaughters and my son’s three dogs. My grand-daughter had an abrasion and Shafiq even went out of the way to look for a plaster for her. The photos were very well-taken and we were pleased with how they had turned out. Thank you Shafiq and Bambini for the pleasant, stress-free experience. – Mdm Chew, April 2022
