At this age, portraits can be kept simple and relaxed, with enough guidance so your tween or teen knows what to do without making the photographs feel forced.
We can photograph them individually as well as create different combinations with siblings and parents during the same family session.
Brothers & Sisters As They Are Now
Sibling photographs change considerably as children grow.
Rather than photographing tweens and teenagers like young children, we can keep the interaction simple. Images of them standing or sitting together, talking, laughing and creating a few more relaxed portraits alongside the classic ones.
These photographs become particularly meaningful as siblings begin following different paths through school, National Service, university, work or life overseas.
When Is A Good Time For Tween or Teen Family Photos?
It doesn’t need to be a birthday or major milestone.
Families often realise it’s time for another portrait when the children have suddenly grown taller, a sibling is preparing to study overseas, everyone is finally together again, or the last family portrait was taken when the children were much younger.
The session can be kept simple with a few classic family portraits, sibling photographs and more relaxed combinations that reflect the family as they are now.

An Updated Family Portrait
As children grow older, there are often fewer natural occasions when everyone is photographed together.
A tween or teen photoshoot is also an opportunity to update the family portrait. Images of everyone together as well as smaller combinations such as Mum and child, Dad and child, siblings, and each child individually.
For families approaching a transition such as a child leaving for university or moving overseas, it can also preserve what the family looks like while everyone is still together.
What If My Teen Doesn’t Like Being Photographed?
That’s completely fine.
A family photoshoot doesn’t require teenagers to perform for the camera or spend an hour forcing smiles. We give enough direction so everyone knows where to stand, what to do and where to look, then work through the photographs efficiently and keep the interaction relaxed.
The aim isn’t to make your teenager behave like a younger child. It’s to photograph them naturally at the age they are now.
