Lately, we ran a contest to ask our Facebook fans and their friends “What Family Photos Mean To You”.
Out of so many comments, almost everyone of those comments include “Memories”, “bonding”, “keepsake”, “cherish”, “precious”, “look back”, “laugh and cry”, “we grow old”, “kids grow too fast”, “legacy” etc. Some started a tradition of taking family photos every year/couple of years and hope that their children will continue the tradition.
It’s Lunar New Year again and for many, this will be the time for reunion with everyone in the family. Children, uncles, aunties, cousins flying in or skyping together at a pre-arranged time for everyone across various time zones to make that reunion. It is also often during this time that everyone take that group photo/video on phone, SLR, “Go Pro” etc.
Whichever tool you use to capture those moments, these are the memories captured….with stories to tell, laughter, the cringe, tears that roll and feeling nostalgic about it all.
For some of our friends who are regular social media users, they’ll post it on Facebook/Instagram to “archive” those photos so Facebook will remind them of the memories and things they did last year/couple of years ago at this exact day…. Some simply do that as an ‘insurance’ to have at least a back up in case they forget to backup their photos.
Others, who prefer the touch and feel will compile the images into prints, frames or albums as a way of ‘archiving’ their memories.
