8 Tips to Dressing Your Bump! | What to Wear for Your Maternity Photoshoot

What To Wear For Maternity Photoshoot?

Doing your Maternity Photoshoots soon or still can’t decide what to wear?

We understand the dilemma of selecting that perfect wardrobe can be daunting.

After thousands of maternity shoots, let us help you! Here are some tips…

Outfit Inspiration For Maternity Photo Shoot

1. Maxi Dress

Maxi dresses are perfect for maternity shoots as they are very comfortable and flattering. It’s great for showing off your beautiful baby bump, but can also cover up any ‘problem areas’. The dress can be halter neck, 3/4 sleeved, off-shoulders or even sleeveless, take your pick!

2. Body Hugging Clothing

Body hugging clothing looks great to show off those beautiful pregnancy curves. It’s simple and keeps the attention drawn to your tummy and you.

3. Solid Colours

We recommend solid colours as this would help your bump stand out the most. Simple solid color focus the attention on your baby bump.

4. Bare Your Bump

If you’d like to show off your bare bump, we recommend wearing a solid, coloured tube and matching bottom. You can also wear crop tops or a shirt with buttons undone and matching bottoms/denims (non-maternity type) to show off the shape of your bump

5. Texture

You can make your photos look more interesting by wearing clothing with different textures. It’s a great alternative to prints or patterns, and adds more dimension to your photos. You can wear an embroidered top, lace dress or pair your denim jeans with a cotton shirt. Be creative!

6. For More Intimate/Sensual Images

If you’re thinking of doing a more intimate and sensual shoot, we recommend bringing along some nice lingerie or sheer baby doll dresses in soft muted colours.

Sheer, lace robes are also perfect for that soft romantic look. They show off your baby bump but also help hide any unflattering areas.

If you’re thinking of getting your own robes, we recommend the robes from Bell & Birds! You can check out our blogpost to see how we styled these robes during a maternity studio and milk bath shoot. We also have an exclusive discount code for Bambini’s clients, use “Bambini10” to get 10% off all purchases from their online store!

Or go for something edgy, robes like these or even a leather jacket works too!

7. Simply Use What We Have In The Studio

Feeling tired, out of wits, out of time, simply not sure or whatever reasons, no worries!

We have a selection of clothing and materials in our studio too, just let us know beforehand so we can get ready some ideas and prep the fabric drapes, dresses, tubes and bottoms for your maternity photo shoot!

We will style it up for you! Some mummies prefer to go completely bare under the drapes, if not you can bring nude/black/white coloured undies to wear underneath.

8. Modest Wear – Maternity Photoshoot

Modest wear has been on a rising trend and here’s some ideas how you can match it up for your maternity session with us. We look most beautiful when we feel confident and comfortable with ourselves. With that, the photos will show your pregnancy glow too.

100 Days vs Sitters Baby Milk Bath – What’s The Difference?

What’s So Special About Baby Milk Bath Photoshoot?

Before anything you might already be asking yourself if baby milk bath photography should be in your considerations in the first place.

“The normal classic baby photoshoot or the baby milk bath shoot?”

What is it that makes it so special that I should do a baby milkbath shoot? Is it worth it?”

And then, you might find yourself contemplating between doing a 100 Days Baby Milkbath or the Sitters Baby Milkbath. So hard to make choices sometimes!

We wrote another blogpost about why we feel Baby Milkbath is such a huge score. It isn’t just a bath time. Even a simple activity like this is a bonding session for your baby. And while providing sensory learning for your baby, it’s a simple activity that you always do at home…… Only for a certain period of time until they can manage on their own when they’re older.

So if you’ve entered the parenthood life and whether you have missed the newborn shoot period or not ready to do a newborn shoot, but still want to intentionally capture memories – Baby Milkbath photoshoot is one we’d happily recommend. Which one should you choose? We’re going to show what you can expect from the 100 Days and Sitters Baby Milkbath photoshoot to help you decide.

There is no option that is better than the other. Every milestone is beautiful and unique to all parents.

So What’s The Difference?

100 Days Baby Milkbath photoshoot are for babies who are not able to sit just yet, while Sitters Baby Milkbath are for babies who can already sit independently on their own (and have not started walking).

100 Days Baby Milkbath

For 100 Days Baby Milkbath, we like to have mummies to join in the shots. You will be holding onto them on your laps while the both of you are in the adult tub. Enjoy your time in the tub playing and interacting with your baby while we take some shots at it. This is such a beautiful continuation, if you had previously done Maternity Milkbath photoshoot as well.

Isn’t it weird that sometimes we find our babies so different suddenly?

Almost like a different baby altogether?

They look so different, no longer looking like mummy but looking more like papa now. They’ve started to respond more and respond differently.

New personalities has started to show too!

Your now-chubbier baby has hit another significant milestone, 100 days on this earth.

And so so many accomplishments…

We love to capture that and so, we also do some shots of your little bub lying down on their own in a baby tub, and time-freezing their expressions and reflexes.

Reflexes? Yup, those are special too!

Sitters Baby Milkbath

On the other hand, for Sitters Milkbath photoshoot, we get to celebrate and capture their new milestone – sitting independently on their own in the baby tub (which is provided in our studio too).

As every babies are different, some may start to sit independently at 6 months, some at 8 months or some at 10 months. As long as they are able to sit one their own for a long time, that’s a good time for this shoot.

And how cute that they are still tiny but so full of different expressions! Capture your baby’s wonders and playfulness from this series.

Because…. What else can a simple activity like taking a bath can make someone laugh and be so happy?

Here’s a video of Behind The Scenes of a Baby Milk Bath Photoshoot for Baby Shayera who did her 100 days and then her sitter milk bath photoshoot and other babies who have done their milk bath sessions!

Having just given birth, your new life with your baby is not always easy.

There are so many post-pregnancy feelings that you didn’t know could come or even exist.

And yet you still adapt and do the best you can for your baby as you enter the new parenthood life.

Just like anything else in this life…. even skills and love grow along with time. In a blink of an eye (it really feels that fast!), your newborn is now 7 months old.

It’s not only just a celebration of their milestone, but also really a celebration of how far you’ve come in your new roles as parents.

You’ve embraced the changes in stride. Some days are really hard, some days it took so much strength to muster, but you’re still going on and that’s what matters most in life.

So why do we think Baby Milkbath is so special? It’s an everyday activity that you do with your baby. It’s memories close to home. With each day that passes by, your baby and you change even through bath time. Sometimes taking mental pictures of the special intimate moments with your babies are a blur to revisit mentally again, so we’d really like to turn them into tangible memories for you.

How Do I Decide? Studio Maternity or Milkbath Maternity Photoshoot?

I’m sure by now, many of you have seen those beautiful maternity milkbath images…

Now the question for many mummies-to-be is:
How do I decide which maternity photoshoot is better?

Or which is more suitable?
Then there is the question if you can do both?

Firstly, there is no “which is better”, it’s which do you prefer?

And regarding if you can do both?
Of course you can!

Here are some answers to the concerns you may have:

“I really like the pictures I see, but I’m not good at posing”

Here’s where our trained photographers play the part, we’re not expecting you to know how to pose, and we will guide you through every shot, up to where to place your hand, how to stand, or sit, or lie down, where to look.

Do you have a preferred side, we’ll work with that. Our photographers are all ladies too, and we know how it’s like when our hair is not looking the best – we’ll help you adjust your hair through the session too, and watch out for anything that is out of place.

If there is one thing in common for photographers, we love details – and we look at details when we are photographing you. We do our best to cover any little part and we need your help too and we’ll work together to create the images you love.

“It looks difficult to pose for those maternity milkbath shots…”

On the contrary, if you want to keep the posing to even a minimal with us, maternity milkbath is the way to go!

You are literally taking a milk spa, it’s a moisturizing soap we’re using to create the milky effect and you’re just soaking it in.

We’ll move around to get the best angles for you and occasionally guide you to where to place your hands and where to look or turn… That’s about it! Simple and easy. Beautiful images and soft supple skin after the shoot!

“I don’t have any suitable clothing or any nice clothes for photoshoot

But we have it! We have a selection in the studio that you can choose from. In one session, we usually do about 3 different styles so there is definitely enough looks for you.

We’re need your help to let us know if you would like to use our clothing and we’ll prepare them beforehand so when you come, we have everything ready for you!

If you need some help on what clothes you can bring from your own home to add on to what we have, you can find some inspiration here: 8 Tips to Dressing Your Bump

“Do I have to bring those nice fabrics you use for milkbath? But I don’t have any…

And you don’t have to bring any of those fabrics we use to drape and style for the maternity studio and milkbath images :)

They are all provided for in the studio, together with the floral elements we use in the milkbath. We have some flower crowns available as hair accessories too!

There are a few choices of colours, if you have a preference do let us know!

If you have a favourite in terms of choice for flowers, feel free to bring along some fresh flowers to incorporate into your milkbath photoshoot too!

“How can you ever say anything negative about your body after you have felt the dancing of life from inside your womb?”
– Amethyst Joy

“I want to have something to remember my pregnancy but I’m not sure if I’ll look good in photos…”

Don’t compare yourselves to models on magazines! Everything is photoshopped… And we photoshop too, but our goal is still to bring out the most natural and beauty of your pregnancy, so we won’t overdo the editing! We’re celebrating your curves and within you, you’re creating a new life :)

There are camera angles and lightings we can work with to create images to make you look flattering. Who doesn’t want that?

And what’s a better way to remember your memories of this moment than taking photos. We are here to be a part of your growing journey and after photographing hundreds and hundreds of mummies-to-be, and being women ourselves, we know your concerns on looking good and that is simply our job – to help you look good in photos.

“I’m concerned about my hair and make-up once it gets wet in the milkbath shots.”

Don’t worry about your face getting wet! It won’t be!

Your hair would get kind of wet, but not completely… And the wet hair is part of the look!
We will definitely be doing substantial amount of images with your hair still dry and if you have any curls done and leave getting the hair wet right at the end of the shoot.

If you like your hair in an updo, that’s great! Go with your preference, get your hair done how you like it.

We can attempt some hair-down shots towards the end of the shoot for some variety in your look as well.

All in all, we’re flexible. Let us know your preferences so we can adjust to your liking. If you don’t have any specific preference, we can recommend what we feel looks best on you too!
