Pregnancy Photoshoots – Important Safety Tips

Pregnancy Photoshoot – Safety Tips

You know how sometimes we browse for photo inspiration and goes “Eh, I think I can pose like that too!”

And we start to screenshot the photos happily wanting to follow the exact pose and “feel”.

“Is it achievable?” “I really like it and I want to tell the photographer before the shoot to follow the exact style!”

We thought we’ll share with you some of the questions you have in achieving these dancing shots (a popular request by pregnant mummies).

Is it easy?….

It seems like it is something I can do too?…..

Is it safe? …..

Do I have to be a dancer to achieve this? …..

It can always be edited by photoshop right?…..

We will be sharing all the “tried and tested” Q&A session on the entire experience with you thanks to our experienced photographers and our dancer mummies!

Q: I really like this pose for it looks so elegant, is it safe? Do i have to be a dancer to achieve this?

A: Your safety is always our number 1 priority and yes it helps if you are a dancer because it would mean that you have been practising for a period of time. You will also know your body best, how flexible you are and how much you can “push” for the angles you would like to pose and achieve.

This beautiful mummy in the photo has been practising dancing for over a decade and she shared with us that she is really comfortable twisting and have no problem balancing. She wished to include dancing movements and poses in her pregnancy photoshoot because dancing has played a huge part in her life. Our photographer, was the one who was more concern and kept asking if she is doing ok instead!

Q: I am not a dancer and would love to pose like one. Will you be able to help?

A: Our photographers are trained to help ease you into posing comfortably and safely but it is also important for you to understand your body.

For dancing poses it helps if your body is more flexible even if you have no dancing background, for instance you have been practising yoga or pilates, it might help you balance better.

Your body’s center of gravity is constantly changing during pregnancy, you might be less coordinated and may even find it harder to maintain your balance. It is important to share information with your photographer for example you have been practising yoga and pilates and would like to add some poses into the shoot or you have learned chinese dance before and would like to incorporate some of the postures because this will help our professional photographer to better achieve what you want.

This is also why our professional photographers will always discuss with you prior your pregnancy photoshoot session to better understand your likes and preferences.

Q: Can you include some dancing poses with me and my husband because it looks cute and fun? Are you able to help us?

A: You can most definitely show our photographers what you really like and they will be able to advise you based on your movements and flexibility. It would be best to also discuss with your husband at home and try out some of the various dancing poses that you like.

Sometimes what we think in our mind does not necessary translate into our actual posing, so this will allow you both to see if you are able to recreate what you like. It is also important to remember to have fun and enjoy the studio photoshoot session so that when you look back at the photos, it is not only meaningful but in time to come will turn into stories to be shared with your children.

Q: But I really really like that pose and I want to create the same!

A: Our photographers will always prioritise your safety and give their best in helping you create what you like. With that being said, there are many other factors to take into consideration as well.

To manage your expectations, our photographers will discuss with you and try to recreate similar pose based on safety, your body flexibility, how well you can balance, stretch, just to list a few.

Q: Do you provide dancing costumes? Or do I have to bring my own outfits?

A: We do provide a variety of outfits to choose from and you can get some outfit inspiration. You are also welcome to bring your own outfits to make the photoshoot session more personalised and intimate.

Impressive service, exceptional photography. We booked a family/maternity shoot for a weekend morning, but when the day arrived, everything seemed to go wrong: my makeup artist was a no-show and my daughter was sick and very cranky as a result. We nearly wanted to postpone the shoot, but decided not to in the end. Our photographer, Fatilyn, and another of the staff, Melissa, were very patient in handling our fussy child and managing the entire session. Still, I wasn’t too optimistic about the outcome, until I saw the photos, which were sent to us the very next day. They are of great quality and we couldn’t have asked for a better set of photos despite the circumstances that day! – Clarice Ting

8 Tips to Dressing Your Bump! | What to Wear for Your Maternity Photoshoot

What To Wear For Maternity Photoshoot?

Doing your Maternity Photoshoots soon or still can’t decide what to wear?

We understand the dilemma of selecting that perfect wardrobe can be daunting.

After thousands of maternity shoots, let us help you! Here are some tips…

Outfit Inspiration For Maternity Photo Shoot

1. Maxi Dress

Maxi dresses are perfect for maternity shoots as they are very comfortable and flattering. It’s great for showing off your beautiful baby bump, but can also cover up any ‘problem areas’. The dress can be halter neck, 3/4 sleeved, off-shoulders or even sleeveless, take your pick!

2. Body Hugging Clothing

Body hugging clothing looks great to show off those beautiful pregnancy curves. It’s simple and keeps the attention drawn to your tummy and you.

3. Solid Colours

We recommend solid colours as this would help your bump stand out the most. Simple solid color focus the attention on your baby bump.

4. Bare Your Bump

If you’d like to show off your bare bump, we recommend wearing a solid, coloured tube and matching bottom. You can also wear crop tops or a shirt with buttons undone and matching bottoms/denims (non-maternity type) to show off the shape of your bump

5. Texture

You can make your photos look more interesting by wearing clothing with different textures. It’s a great alternative to prints or patterns, and adds more dimension to your photos. You can wear an embroidered top, lace dress or pair your denim jeans with a cotton shirt. Be creative!

6. For More Intimate/Sensual Images

If you’re thinking of doing a more intimate and sensual shoot, we recommend bringing along some nice lingerie or sheer baby doll dresses in soft muted colours.

Sheer, lace robes are also perfect for that soft romantic look. They show off your baby bump but also help hide any unflattering areas.

If you’re thinking of getting your own robes, we recommend the robes from Bell & Birds! You can check out our blogpost to see how we styled these robes during a maternity studio and milk bath shoot. We also have an exclusive discount code for Bambini’s clients, use “Bambini10” to get 10% off all purchases from their online store!

Or go for something edgy, robes like these or even a leather jacket works too!

7. Simply Use What We Have In The Studio

Feeling tired, out of wits, out of time, simply not sure or whatever reasons, no worries!

We have a selection of clothing and materials in our studio too, just let us know beforehand so we can get ready some ideas and prep the fabric drapes, dresses, tubes and bottoms for your maternity photo shoot!

We will style it up for you! Some mummies prefer to go completely bare under the drapes, if not you can bring nude/black/white coloured undies to wear underneath.

8. Modest Wear – Maternity Photoshoot

Modest wear has been on a rising trend and here’s some ideas how you can match it up for your maternity session with us. We look most beautiful when we feel confident and comfortable with ourselves. With that, the photos will show your pregnancy glow too.
